Lemosho route

Details

At Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), you will be picked up by a Nitoursandsafaris employee and taken to your hotel. The hotel offers everything you need for a comfortable stay: cosy rooms, hot water, friendly staff, a swimming pool and internet access. In the evening, you will receive a briefing about the start of the climb.
After breakfast, you will be given a brief reminder of the instructions and then drive (approx. 3-4 hours) to the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park: the Londorossi Gate at an altitude of 2,250 metres. The climbing permit will be obtained on site and, after registering with the search and rescue service, the group will begin the hike to the first camp on the route, Mti Mkubwa Camp at an altitude of 2,650 m. Rain jackets are very important on this day, as you will be hiking through a rainforest. Upon arrival, the tents are set up and lunch can be enjoyed. Afterwards, they set off on an acclimatisation hike to Shira 1 Camp, a difference in altitude of 300 metres. Afterwards, they hike back to camp, where a hot dinner awaits them. This hike is very important for acclimatising to the altitude.
After breakfast, we continue on our way, with the path gradually becoming steeper and transitioning into the vast heathland moor. After crossing several streams, we traverse the Shira ridge, passing Shira Camp I on our way to Shira Camp II, where lunch awaits us. Afterwards, there will be some time to rest.
You leave Shira 2 Camp and set off for Lava Tower at 4,600 m. This section has many ascents and descents up to a camp. Some sections are difficult, and you may feel a little uncomfortable. To acclimatise, you need to spend at least 1–2 hours here, so you will have lunch here. You then descend to Barranco Camp at 3,900 m. There you will see the Barranco Wall, which is impressive both for its size and its steepness! You will climb it the next day. It is a very easy hiking trail.
Early in the morning, after enjoying a hearty breakfast, we begin the hike to the Barranco Wall. We start early to avoid the crowds of other groups. The approximately one-hour hike up the gorge wall is not difficult. Once at the top, you can rest and take photos in front of the Kibo volcano. Afterwards, a more difficult hike to Karanga Camp begins, which includes numerous ascents and descents. Nitoursanfsafaris chooses the appropriate pace for all participants. After reaching the camp, you will be offered a hot lunch. A few hours later, you will have to complete an acclimatisation hike towards Barafu Camp with an altitude difference of 200 m and then descend back to the camp.
In the morning, after a warm and hearty breakfast, you will begin your hike to Barafu Summit Camp. This camp is the starting point for the final night hike to Uhuru Peak at an altitude of 5,895 metres (19,336 feet). This is today's final destination. The camp is set up in advance so that your tents and sleeping bags are ready when you arrive and you can simply relax and rest at Barafu Summit Camp.
The departure begins at night from Barafu Camp (4,673 m) and starts the final ascent to the highest point of Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m. Technically, the climb is relatively easy, but physical activity can feel strenuous due to the unfamiliar altitude. Nitoursandsafaris monitors your physical and mental well-being very closely. After successfully climbing Uhuru Peak – the summit of Kilimanjaro and the end point of the Lemosho Route – you can descend to the nearest glacier if you wish. You will then return to Barafu Camp, where you can rest for two hours before continuing your descent to Millennium Camp at 3,950 m. ATTENTION! 90% of all accidents happen during the descent, e.g. broken arms and legs. Please pay particular attention to your feet, as there is a high risk of injuring your toes.
The Millennium Camp is located in a tropical rainforest. When you wake up, you will feel relief from the lower altitude and satisfaction at having successfully reached the summit. After a warm breakfast, you will make your way to the park exit: the Mweka Gate at 1,640 metres. After your descent, you will have the opportunity to record your impressions of the climb in the guest book.
Rest at the hotel and transfer to the airport.
