About Mount Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro is often referred to as the Roof of Africa or the Crown of Tanzania.
Kilimanjaro is both the highest mountain in Tanzania and the highest free-standing peak in the world. Standing at 5,895 metres above sea level, Kilimanjaro is also unique in that it lies just 330 km from the equator.
It consists of three volcanic peaks. Shira (3,962 m), the oldest of the three peaks, is already extinct. Mawenzi (5,149 m) and the youngest, Kibo (5,895 m), are dormant and could erupt again at any time.
