Details

You will be picked up in Dar es Salaam and driven to the Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere National Park). The journey takes around 4 hours. Once there, you will be served lunch and have a short rest at the lodge. In the late afternoon, you will go on a boat safari on the mighty Rufiji River. From the boat, you will encounter numerous hippos and crocodiles. Around 350 bird species are recorded in the Selous Game Reserve. These are typical of Miombo woodlands, and the birdlife of the Rufiji wetlands is of particular interest, especially for photography.
A full day in the Selous Game Reserve! Explore the reserve in a 4x4 and enjoy dinner. You will spend the night at the Selous Mloka Safari Lodge. Covering an area of 53,600 square kilometres, the Selous Game Reserve is the largest in Africa. The reserve was named after the hunter and explorer Frederick Courtney Selous. He lost his life here during the First World War. Selous is famous for its elephants. Other frequently encountered species include lions, wild dogs, buffalo, bushbucks, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras and giraffes.
After an early breakfast, you will spend another day in the Selous Game Reserve. You will start with a morning walking safari, followed by a game drive with a picnic lunch. A walking safari gives you a particularly intimate feel for the African wilderness. It begins in the morning under the guidance of an armed ranger and lasts two hours, before you meet the driver at the reserve gate. Walking safaris offer a good opportunity to see giraffes, zebras and elephants, and to watch birds.
After breakfast, you will return to Dar es Salaam with a picnic lunch.
