You will be picked up by Nitoursandsafaris in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. During the journey to the spice farm, enjoy the scenic drive through Zanzibar’s lush countryside. Upon arrival, Nitoursandsafaris will guide you around the farm. This is an interactive tour where you can see, smell and taste a variety of spices and fruits. You will learn about the cultivation and use of spices such as cloves, vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon, which have played a significant role in the history of Zanzibar. Take part in hands-on activities such as peeling, grinding and smelling the fresh spices. You will also have the chance to taste exotic tropical fruits such as jackfruit, star fruit and much more. The tour includes a visit to a local spice shop, where you can buy fresh spices and natural products as souvenirs. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious, traditional Swahili lunch, prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. You will savour the unique flavours of Zanzibari cuisine, enhanced by the spices you have just learnt about.
You will then continue to Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, home to the famous Jozani Forest. On the scenic drive through rural villages and lush countryside, you will arrive at the forest in the early afternoon. The guided walk begins through Jozani Forest, the last remaining refuge of the endemic red colobus monkeys. Marvel at the diversity of flora and fauna, including rare tree species, medicinal plants and colourful butterflies. Experience the red colobus monkeys up close and observe their playful behaviour and unique characteristics. Learn more about the conservation efforts to protect these endangered primates and their habitat. The journey continues through the nearby mangrove swamps. Walk along the raised wooden walkway, explore the unique mangrove ecosystem and learn about its importance for coastal protection and biodiversity.
